Jesse Selengut (born September 9, 1968, Dover, New Jersey) is a New York City-based trumpeter, composer, and singer. A noted performer of American Roots music, Selengut sings, composes, & plays trumpet in Tin Pan, a band that has once included such notables as Clifton Hyde (composition, arrangement, production, guitars, & vocals), Stefan Zeniuk (reeds), and Pete "Baby Hands" Maness (double bass & vocals). Selengut led the contemporary jazz group NOIR which performed in the World Harmony tour in Kenya in 2007 to raise money and awareness for the Shangilia Orphanage in Nairobi. In the free jazz and avant-garde idiom, Jesse Selengut performed with Dave Douglas, Butch Morris, Kenny Wollesen, Sabir Matteen and Daniel Carter. Jesse Selengut founded, directed and produced the Williamsburg Jazz Festival from its inception in 2003 to its final year in 2007. This annual multi-stage event took place in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, NY and ran consecutively for 5 years. Performers have included Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Nellie McKay, Wayne Krantz, Steve Coleman, Dafnis Prieto, Eric Reed, and Yosvany Terry among others. Selengut is also a percussionist. In 1996 he formed an organization called Full Circle Drumming. Full Circle Drumming provides drumming workshops for social work organizations and corporations. Often presented as “mind expansion” exercises, the drumming workshops provide an opportunity for people of all kinds to benefit from the deep personal and interpersonal connection that can be experienced by drumming and music in general.
